John F. Kennedy Oval Office Chair
$2,995.00The style of American Presidents' Oval Office chairs reached apotheosis with the executive chair specifically designed for John F. Kennedy.
As President-elect Kennedy planned to move into the White House in 1961, engineers of the venerable Gunlocke Company of Wayland, New York, worked with his personal physician, Dr. Janet Travell, to develop an executive chair that combined ergonomics and aesthetics. She had treated Kennedy for chronic back pain, and insisted that his working chair have the maximum in comfort and support, while reflecting executive style and refinement.
The robustly-engineered, orthpedic-firm support structure of the Gunlocke Oval Office Chair has a sinuous spring suspension (hand-tied, 11-gauge tempered steel springs that run across the seat of the chair), unitized by insulated wire along with a fill of high-density, resilient foam for years of sag-free seating. The chair's back is also foam-filled over a super-reinforced spring foundation. The leather-upholstered swivel chair has a solid cherry brass-capped base with 2-inch rubber wheels. The interior frame of solid maple that has been double-doweled, corner-blocked, glued and screwed for extra strength. All frame components are made of high-density maple which strongly grips upholster tacks, preventing them from loosening. Soft, top-grain leather upholstery finishes the chair. Dark cherry finish. Includes a 360-degree swivel base and manual lift that raises the chair from 45 to 47-1/2" high.
