"Toots" by Bob Considine (Signed)

$295.00

Bob Considine, internationally famous Hearst columnist and author of "Thirty Seconds over Tokyo," observed Toots Shor with amused affection for nearly half a century. Offered is a rare 1969 First Edition of Toots by Mr. Considine, personally signed by both author and Toots Shor himself. Toots emerges, intact and unique, in this loving and unmistakably authentic portrait by a fellow bum of long standing.

Toots is a name that calls up the smiling, rubicund face of the legendary saloonkeeper and bum. Toots Shor, born in Philadelphia, had the good sense to migrate almost immediately to New York's bright lights. During the speakeasy era he became a legend as bouncer, guardian, and manager. He opened his own joint in 1940, and the rest is history. The greats of the sport world and of the stage and films frequented his bar, while trying (usually in vain) to match his prowess as imbiber and raconteur.
