Robert Indiana's LOVE Sculpture

$75.00

Robert Indiana was born in 1928 in New Castle, Indiana, and later relocated to Indianapolis where he graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. He moved to New York City in 1954 and joined the pop art movement, using distinctive imagery drawing on commercial art approaches blended with existentialism, gradually moving toward what Indiana calls "sculptural poems." Indiana's work often consists of bold, simple, iconic images, especially numbers and short words like EAT, HUG, and, his best known example, LOVE. Indiana's LOVE was first created for a Christmas card for the Museum of Modern Art in 1964 and later was included on an eight-cent United States Postal Service postage stamp, the first of their regular series of "love stamps." Sculptural versions of the image have been installed at numerous American and international locations. Conceived in a time when America was consumed by the Vietnam War, LOVE became a symbol for Peace.

One of the most celebrated works within the pop art movement as well the art world as a whole, Robert Indiana's iconic LOVE sculpture has been crafted in into an aluminum paperweight. Gift boxed with informational card about the artist and his timeless sculpture. (Measures 3"H x 3"W x 1.5"D).
